mini West Palm Beach session with the Snow's {Family Photographer}

This Christmas we got to spend time in West Palm Beach with Susan, Jeff, and Harrison. It had been 8 months since our last visit together, so this was an incredibly special time for all of us. Jack and Harrison had a whole week of playing together where Jack promptly showed everyone that he wasn't the sharing type (sorry Harrison, we'll get better). Harrison is a very special kid (and not just because he's one of our favorite nephews) and his parents are pretty great too:) For those of you interested in knowing a little more about his life these last 14 months, you can visit his website here. A New Year's Wedding: Paige and Garrett's Wedding Preview {NYC Wedding Photographer | NJ Wedding Photographer}

Paige and Garrett's wedding could not have been a better way to bring in the New Year. And while I was sort of wishing for a snowy January 1st to set the backdrop, we lucked out with a sunny and near 50 degrees January 1st instead. It really was a beautiful day (and not just because of the weather). Paige and Garrett were so calm and relaxed and were focused solely on each other (as they should have been). And they were surrounded by really good friends and family making the whole day just feel right. Paige and Garrett, thank you for letting me be a part of your day! Enjoy the preview!

Paige's bouquet was made even more special by the ribbon tied around it that included buttons from childhood dresses her mother made as well as her great-grandmother's wedding ring! Definitely one of the more creative and thoughtful things I've seen.

The backside of the church was just as beautiful as the front.

It may have been nearly 50 degrees, but it was still cold. Paige was prepared with the perfect accessories though, including her grandmother's fur.

I knew I was going to love my afternoon with Jourdan and Andrew from the very beginning. Besides being one of those really adorable couples (c'mon, you know you are), they said they wanted to be photographed doing something fun in the city...how much more could you ask for? From cupcakes in Columbus Circle (a memory of their first official date), to hot cocoa and shopping at the Christmas Village, to a stroll through Lincoln Center I think we did just that. I love getting the chance to photograph a growing family. It's such a sweet time to be a part of as only children become siblings and parents are falling in love with another child. My first meeting with Cameron could not have gone any better. It's been 2 years since my first meeting with the Anderson family, then a family of four they have now grown to a family of five. They were adorable and fun then, but I think I loved our afternoon together this year even more. The girls were decked out in fur and tutu's (making me a little jealous that I don't have a girl to dress on a daily basis) and Colin (the amazing big brother) looked oh so handsome in his sweater and loafers. I think there's something so sweet about capturing a family in their own element, so I was really excited when we decided to schedule the Reilly family shoot indoors. We spent most of our time playing inside their 23rd floor apartment (making for great lighting on my part). I got to see all of Liam's tricks...up/down on the bed (definitely a favorite), some really great dancing, lots of reading, and so much more! AJ is one of the happiest babies you'll ever meet, so you can imagine how hard my job was:) We played inside, played outside, and even took a walk on the boardwalk (one of my favorite things no matter what season it is). I am in love with Alexandra and Don's engagement session! Not just because they are an incredibly fun and photogenic couple (I mean, really photogenic too), but also because we captured some of my favorite things about NY in the photos too! Alexandra and Don met in NYC, fell in love in NYC, and got engaged in NYC, so I feel like this engagement session was a perfect way to capture this amazing time in their lives. We started in Central Park on the rocks overlooking the reservoir, walked around the mall area (one of my all time favorite places in NY), then headed to a rooftop in midtown for some absolutely gorgeous photos (the rooftop where Don proposed)! Oscar: 13 Months {NYC Children's Photographer}

I can hardly believe it...Oscar is 1! We have known each other for a whole year now and I have loved getting to know him through photos! Oscar photographs great (as you can see), but he also has the sweetest personality...he's so easy going and fun to play with. Our sessions together have always been some of my favorites! I'm a little sad to know that I won't be seeing him every 3 or 4 months any more (that happens once we've reached the first year milestone), but regardless of how long we go between visits, I will be thrilled to see him anytime:)

I love my yearly photo shoot with the Crawford family! It makes my fall feel complete:) Margot and Malcolm are the perfect siblings for photos, they love to hug on each other, play with each other and make my job incredibly too easy! And as if my our time together wasn't enough, Margot gave me one of my favorite compliments to date. She is now in kindergarten and on the day of her school photos, she told the photographer that she already her own photographer...Jenny! What more could I ask for? Several months ago, I briefly mentioned Lucy and Brad's wedding (Lucy was my doctor in Nashville and perhaps more importantly, the person who told me I was pregnant with Jack!...she's a pretty special woman in case you couldn't tell). Today, I was so happy to finally meet Brad and spend time with the two of them together! We photographed in some of my favorite areas of Nashville, Vanderbilt's campus (where Lucy went to undergrad and graduate school), the Scarritt Bennett Center (just an all around beautiful place), and Hillsboro Village. It was perfect day made even more complete with Briley Anne (their sweet little dog you see in some of the photos). I was told at the beginning of the shoot that photos were one of Brad's least favorite things...I'm hoping that this preview will change his mind a little bit:) Can't wait to see you next October at the wedding!

Where to begin? Rebecca and Jacob are like family to me, so this engagement shoot was incredibly special. So many ways to describe them as a couple: fun-loving, easy-going, hysterical (Jacob would be a comedian if he ever decided to quit his lawyer job), and all around amazing people...just to name a few. We started our afternoon in a beautiful field in Franklin, then moved on to the Loveless Cafe (a favorite local and tourist spot in Nashville- if you're ever in the area, be sure to go) for a cup of coffee and some really great photos. They kept me entertained the whole time making my job incredibly easy:) Rebecca and Jacob, thank you for letting me be a part of your engagement! I can't wait to see all those wedding details in place next August!

Milkshakes and Balloons: Adam and Leighanne's Preview {NYC Photographer}

This blog post is actually really hard for me because it's supposed to be a preview and I honestly want to show you every single photo we took at Adam and Leighanne's shoot! Obviously, I had a great time:) Adam and Leighanne are very good friends of mine. We met shortly after our move to NYC (at Adam's 30th birthday party actually) and have been friends ever since, so I was thrilled when they asked me to do a shoot with them. I loved the idea of doing a "love shoot" (a name you hear given when you need a name for a couple shoot that's not centered around engagement, wedding or maternity photos) with them and loved even more the way they embraced the fun of the day! We started our time with a milkshake at La Bonbonniere in the West Village, ventured around the Meat Packing District and then worked our way uptown to the Hudson River Park with some red balloons for some really fun photos by the water (one of my favorite places in the city). They laughed, flirted, pretended to be serious when I asked them to and I loved the whole afternoon! I wasn't kidding when I said it was hard to just show you a few, but here's my best attempt...

Emily and Stuart: A Fall Engagement in Franklin {TN Engagement Photographer}

I've known Emily and her family for 6+ years now and I feel like I am part of their family, so I'm particularly excited about this shoot. I loved getting the news that Emily and Stuart were engaged and was thrilled to be a part of this time with them! Schedules fell into place allowing Stuart to come up from GA and me to come down from NYC for this perfect fall afternoon engagement session. We spent our afternoon in downtown Franklin with all of it's charm. And while the shops and cafes are enough to hold your attention here, they followed me to the outskirts too for some really fun backdrops (silos, weathered buildings, fields, and more...all the things a NYC girl misses out on these days). I'm pretty sure Claudia has looked amazing throughout her whole pregnancy because she's 36 weeks and still glowing. We met at Claudia's apartment in Cobble Hill for what turned into a very sweet and simple shoot in her living room. We moved furniture around constantly, changed outfits every 15 minutes (one of my favorite things about shooting in someone's home), and came up with some really beautiful photos. Holly and Joe: Wedding Preview {DC Wedding Photographer | NYC Wedding Photographer}

Holly and Joe are NY'ers now, but their shared experience at Georgetown brought them together and made for a perfect wedding destination. All the details were perfect. The ceremony was held at Grace Episcopal Church, a truly charming sanctuary built in the 1800's in the heart of Georgetown. Followed by a reception at Sequoia, a perfect DC wedding venue with it's floor to ceiling windows overlooking the water and upper level bar to host the cocktail hour. The best part of these 2 venues though is that their in walking distance to each other...what could be better? But as much as I loved the venues and the details, the best part of their day was watching Holly and Joe together with their families. They both come from strong loving families and I loved watching them embrace Holly and Joe on this special day. I also loved the way Holly and Joe honored each other's families traditions throughout the day, from the playing of Edelweiss during the ceremony (a Bryce family tradition) to the serving of Joe's grandmother's apple pie at the reception (rather than cake). Thank you Holly and Joe for letting me be a part of your day! Enjoy the preview!

With the scare of Hurricane Irene, we were bracing ourselves for a rainy/windy day, but the storm moved out just hours before leaving us with an incredibly beautiful day!

Meet my dear friends Peter and Joey. I met them shortly after our move to NYC 2 1/2 years ago and (sadly) this is their last day to be living in the city. They have called NY home for several years, but continued schooling (and maybe the beach) is calling them to South Florida (we'll hope only temporarily). So, as you can imagine, I was all too glad to monopolize one of their last few afternoons with such a fun photo shoot! We started in Soho and worked our way back up town to Central Park and their bench. I loved every single minute of it! We laughed a lot, gossiped a little, and did our best to capture some of their life in the city in a few photos. Peter and Joey, NY (and I) will miss you!

A couple weeks ago I got together with my friend Tiffany to photograph her adorable pregnant belly (you've seen her before on this Blog). This is baby #2 for the Henkel family, a time when most may not think to be photographed (probably because they did it the first pregnancy). I know from watching Tiffany through this experience that it's much different than the first time around (mostly because you have an idea of what to expect this time), so I was thrilled to be able to take some time to focus on this pregnancy alone with her. Whatley Family in NYC {NYC Family Photographer}

Who ever said that middle school boys don't like to be photographed? Meet the Whatley's and you will quickly learn that this might just be the most fun age to photograph! The Whatley's are visiting NYC for a week and thanks to Jennifer's brother Jerry (my good friend), they set up a fun afternoon shoot with me to document their time here. They were up for anything...running through NYC streets, posing in the middle of crowds, and moving locations about every 10 minutes. Fabiola and Maximiliano's Central Park Wedding {NYC Wedding Photographer}

When Fabiola and Maximiliano called me early in the week to photograph their Central Park wedding, I was so thrilled to be able to be a part of it! This amazing couple is from Argentina and here in NYC for just a little more than a week. They came with about 15 of their close friends and family and had a beautiful ceremony at Belvedere Castle. Everyone was full of laughter and tears, it truly was such an emotional morning and I was so happy to capture the moment with them. The rest of our short time together was spent traipsing around Central Park and 5th Avenue getting some gorgeous photos of just Fabiola and Maximiliano. Mommybites Summit (NYC Children's Photographer)

If you're a mom in the city, then you may have heard of a great company called Babybites (you've also seen them before here on my Blog)! Babybites is an educational and social group for moms and moms-to-be with a mission to provide advice and support through events, support groups, and online resources. This Thursday, they did just that in a HUGE way at their Mommybites Summit! It was such a fun night for moms, dads, and expectant moms and dads and I was so happy to be there to photograph it! The night was filled with great speakers, including Hal Runkel, fantastic vendors, tons of giveaways, and lots of good friends. If you didn't make it this year, you definitely can't miss out on next year's events! Thank you Babybites for a fantastic evening!

I love the build up for a wedding. I love the moment, when I realize a couple's wedding that was booked a year ago is finally about to happen. We've talked about their plans, gone over the details of the day, made a timeline, and then finally...it's here! Sarah and Matthew made a perfect plan for their wedding day and this Saturday it finally arrived. The wedding was in midtown Atlanta, Sarah's hometown and Matthew and Sarah's college town (where they met at Georgia Tech). The day was filled with family and close friends, a beautiful service, a walk through midtown Atlanta, and a ride in the Ramblin' Wreck. It was a perfect day! I wasn't too sure about the tweeting world, but after today's shoot I found one more reason to stick with it:) I met Lauren through twitter (you can follow her @amommyinthecity). She is a mom to 20 month old Harlan, a blogger, a Floridian (small world), and just a fun person to be around! I knew I was going to love this shoot even before I got there and I was definitely not disappointed. Harlan is adorable (as you can see in the photos below)! We started the morning in their apartment where Harlan showed off all her toys, then we headed down to the West Village for a walk through St. Luke's in the Fields garden. This week Alan, Jack, and I traveled to West Palm Beach to visit our nephew Harrison (and his parents too). Harrison is 5 months old and is a true fighter. He has spent most of his life in a hospital, but after 5 months and 5 surgeries he is finally home! He still has a long road ahead of him, but he is home with the most amazing parents a child could ask for and thriving. This was not our first meeting with Harrison, but it was our first extended visit since he was born and it's been such a fun 4 days...it's going to be so hard to leave in the morning! Today was a great day to be in NYC...sunny, 60 degrees, and filled with this spring's bridal fashion week (the last of which was most exciting of course). Hmmm...that title is a bit deceptive. I am new to the twitter-ing world and I have to admit, quite confused by it. I consider myself pretty proficient with technology and a rather "up-to-date" person, but I stayed away from twitter for a long time and am now wondering if joining was mistake. But, there's no going back now is there? The 1st birthday party has officially come and gone and it was such a fun day! Jack's Very Orange Birthday Brunch was inspired by the Jack's favorite color of the moment...you guessed it, orange. For weeks all I could see was orange. I would walk into a store and see orange items and wonder how they could fit into his party. In truth, the details were far more simple than I intended for them to be (probably for the best), but the prominence of the color orange still stood out:) The day was filled with great friends, a very large cupcake, and even a photo booth. It's official...my baby boy is ONE! It really is true how quickly time passes when you have a baby. In the 9 months of pregnancy, I felt like he would never arrive, but now I wonder how in the world an entire year has passed? I am completely in love with this little man and cannot imagine life without him. We spent today celebrating as a family (just us three), the big party is still to come in a few weeks giving me a little more time to deny that a year has come and gone already:) Happy birthday baby Jack!!!

But I have a new favorite that just came out this week and I just had to share it with you. The name is On To Baby and the concept is genius. It comes from the founders of The Wedding Chicks (a wedding style and inspiration blog), who (as they tell you on their site) both got pregnant this last year and thought their thoughtful and stylish approach to helping brides plan their weddings could be applied to expectant mothers too and so On to Baby is now here to do just that. As a children's photographer, creative personality, and mother too, this blog is so much of what I love put together in one site. Check them out for creative nursery ideas, birthday parties, photo shoots and more...you might just be inspired yourself:)

Friday's Favorite Things | WEDDINGS (NYC Wedding Photographer)

A large part of my photography business is filled with kids and their families (as you can well tell), but I also really love doing weddings! I love the chance to enter into such an emotional and joyous day with a couple. I only take a limited number of weddings per year (although that number is definitely growing), which keeps my contact with each couple incredibly detailed and personal...something I will strive to keep the same regardless of how many weddings I am privileged to do each year.

Something I get asked a lot is "do you travel for weddings?" The answer is emphatically "YES!" I love the chance to travel somewhere new and photograph in a new setting. At this point, I'd say that near half of the weddings I'm a part of are out of the New York area. I keep my travel costs to a minimum, so don't hesitate to give me a call (or tell your engaged friends to give me a call).

Now, I have to share that part of my interest in this blog post today comes from my most recent wedding booking with Lucy + Brad. This wedding is already very personal to me, because Lucy was my doctor in Nashville:) Even more personal than that, she's the one who told me I was pregnant with Jack...a memory I will keep forever! Needless to say, her call was an incredible surprise and complete joy for me. I am already so excited for October 20, 2012!!

Seeing Oscar this week at his 4 month session has had made me thinking all week about one of my absolute favorite things in this business...a baby's first year! I love to watch them grow (literally) and see their little personality develop. I love being able to help a family document these changes through photos. And perhaps even better than seeing a little baby grow from their newborn session to their first birthday is when I get to see them beyond that first year too. One of my favorite examples (and this will come as no surprise to you I'm sure) is Ansleigh. I have been photographing sweet sweet Ansleigh since she was 3 months old....she's now 2 1/2. I don't see her as often as I once did, but even our yearly session is such a thrill for me. Besides the fact that she is too adorable for words or the fact that she takes fantastic pictures, I've also loved getting to know her family...her wonderful mom (thank you Stephanie), her grandparents and even her great grandmother. Truly one of my favorite things about this business is to photograph a baby throughout their first year and today was another reminder of that. Oscar is officially 4 months old now and he is beyond adorable! You may remember him from his newborn session just a few short months ago (it really does go by fast doesn't it?). He is a happy, smiley, bubbly baby and I am so glad I get to watch him grow up! Despite the nasty NY weather today, we had a fabulous afternoon together...I think the pictures speak for themselves. I can't wait to see him again in just another 3 months!

Friday's Favorite Things...something new I'd like to share with you each week. This week is a bit more personal, but each week is different, so you never know what you might find on Friday's.

It seems the snow fall is never going to stop in NYC this winter! In truth, I don't really mind snow, but I'll be honest, winter with an infant has not proved to be my favorite thing. It makes getting around the city with a stroller or an ergo carrier a bit cumbersome. Add that to all the layers that exist between my own winter clothing and his and you have one bundled mess. BUT this Blog post is called "favorite things", so let me tell me what I do like. I love when there's a lot of snow and for a moment the whole city is covered in white. I love that everyone heads outside to sled (little kids and big kids alike). And this past snowfall I got to introduce Jack to all of that. He and I headed to Riverside Park to meet a friend for Jack's first sledding experience (a great place to be on a snowy day by the way...the parks and recreation staff set up the hills for sledding and make hot chocolate for everyone). He loved the action of all the kids screaming and running around him and while a bit perplexed by the sled itself, he loved being pulled around with me on it. Here's just a glimpse of our first sled together.

I believe my connection to Metro Baptist Church and Rauschenbusch Metro Ministries is no surprise, especially since my husband Alan serves as Pastor there. But despite my obvious reasons for being a part of this church and it's non-profit, it is home for me in the city. It's a place to belong, it's a community to serve with, it's where my son is loved and adored...and that is no small thing. These are a few of the staff who make up the Metro/RMM community, Part 2 will come when the weather allows us back on the roof again (can you tell I'm ready for spring?).

I knew this would be a fun shoot the minute I walked in to the Schiavone house and saw Vincent's huge smiling face. There was also a familiar face in the room, Sara Maiello is the godmother of Vincent and was there to be photographed too. With 20 degree weather outside, we stayed indoors for this shoot, but the shots are still great. There was no fancy set up for this shoot, just a tripod and self timer. I was so excited when Emily got in touch with me over a month ago about this shoot. She and Desiree were meeting up for a friends weekend in the city and they thought a photo shoot together was the perfect way to commemorate the occasion...I couldn't have been happier! They were so much fun to hang out with! Despite the cold, they were still willing to go through with their outfit plans without complaint (I'm pretty sure I complained more than they did as I stayed bundle in my coat, scarf, and gloves the whole time). Favorite Photo Ever

Yes, it's true. I have officially taken my favorite photo to date. It's only fitting that it be of JACK, right? Jack is officially 8 months old (where 8 months have gone, I still have no idea). We decided to take a family day trip out of the city to Cold Spring. It was the perfect getaway too, a quaint town, lots of antique stores, perfect fall weather, fall leaves everywhere...did I mention it was the perfect getaway? It also happened to have countless places that I would love to use for a photo shoot, but this particular spot caught my eye immediately (I'll let the picture tell you why) and with the perfect subject I really couldn't go wrong.

After my trip to Nashville, Jack and I headed east to spend a few days with my brother and his family. If your family is as spread out as mine, then you know how special these visits can be. I photographed Margot and Malcolm last year right around this time, Margot was 3 and Malcolm was 1 1/2. When they were getting ready for the shoot today, Margot asked if we were going to go "play with the ladybugs on the bench like we did last year." A whole year later and she still remembered the ladybugs we saw at the end of our shoot. And while Malcolm may not have remembered the details from last year, I hope he'll remember that the song he sang to me this year was in fact "Single Ladies." As a gift to their parents (along with their good friend/caretaker), Neha and Arushi had their first professional photo shoot in 6 years! They are 8 years old, full of personality, and completely identical. They dressed themselves and said they each wore something different so that people (including themselves) could tell them apart. Hana and Craig threw one amazing wedding party! They had something going on at every minute of the day which makes my job fun since there is constantly something new to capture. The weather held out too, they said it was supposed to rain all day and in the end there wasn't even a drop. But the chance of rain and huge clouds in the sky gave us a great afternoon for photos before the wedding began. It really was such a fun day to be a part of. I have too many favorite photos already! I've definitely said it before, but it's still true...I love maternity shoots. It is such a fun way to show off such an amazing time in a woman's life. Kinga is absolutely beautiful pregnant.
